Our History/Mission

Coastal Animal Referral Emergency is locally owned by Dr. Melissa Krause, an independent emergency veterinarian.

Our mission is to provide excellent care to your pets by ensuring our staff has a great place to work while doing so. We promote a better work-life balance for veterinary professionals to avoid well known burn-out. Approximately half of all veterinary technicians burn out of the profession within their first five years. We are excited to bring this emergency, urgent care, and advanced imaging practice to the Williamsburg community. We are available for urgent care and emergencies. We provide extended hours for our most critical patients who require hospitalization or imaging with licensed staffing.

We offer walk-ins and drop-offs for urgent care and drop-offs for CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, to help with excessive strain on the veterinary community as a whole. Our focus is to be an extension of services, not a replacement for your pet's primary veterinarian.

Our Team

Our team is focused on positivity. We are humble and kind to each other and the community.

We are an experienced group of intern-trained emergency veterinarians, as well as support staff, working to establish a great relationship with our clients while providing exceptional care to our patients.

Our licensed staff will be onsite (24/7) to care for emergencies, perform advanced diagnostics, and care for hospitalized patients.
