I took my longhaired dachshund Theo (Theodore Roosevelt) to coastal on a Sunday evening because he had been having diarrhea and then vomiting. He was diagnosed by his vet last year with an immune disorder. Dr. Krause and her team showed great kindness and excellent care to Theo, while Dr. Krause spent time getting the background to Theo's immune disorder. She recommended and I agreed to bloodwork and determined he had an inflamed colon. They gave him medication for pain, antibiotics and free of charge a special Rx veterinary gastrointestinal wet food to take home, as well as medication to prevent vomiting and diarrhea. Thank goodness I had pet insurance which covered most of the cost ($1500) and Dr. Krause very generously waived my balance. It has been a very long time since I've seen such benevolent care from a business and a genuine interest shown to patient and owner. It has renewed my faith in the kindness humans are capable of giving. I would highly recommend Dr. Krause and her staff to anyone experiencing a medical emergency with their beloved pets.

We were traveling when our elderly cat's kidney disease took a bad turn. We contacted CARE and were able to bring Marcel in over Memorial Day for euthanasia. Dr Krause and the staff there were so kind and helpful. They took their time and were very caring on a tough day. Thank you!

They are wonderful caring place in an emergency. Things take a while but remember they are dealing with the very sick animals first. Loved the vet.

This review is long overdue but I have been so consumed in my grief everytime I've started to write this the tears have blurred my vision. On April 3, 2026 my soul dog, Eve (aka Evie), started having difficulty walking and was turning down food; with her being 13 years old we rushed her to the e-vet. Having been raised by a senior vet tech manager, and having always had a 4-legged family member, I have had many experiences (good and bad) with veterinarians. I must say Dr Krause is top notch! She was very compassionate to our situation and handled my baby with such love and care.

Everyone was so kind. Eames was very knowledgeable. Had to put my sweet kitty to sleep. Dr. Krauss is amazing. Compassionate, honest, caring. Would recommend this clinic to everyone.

Compact Canine and Coastal Animal Care are a Wonderful Organizations We were not looking for a dog, since we lost our 16-year-old 2 years ago; however, I was at a neighbor who volunteers for Compact Canine, and she had Kolbe, a 7-year-old rescue Poodle Mix. It was instant love and we started the adoption process. They were extremely professional and very concerned about finding Kolbe the appropriate home. We filled out a lengthy application, conducted a one-hour phone interview, then were visited by Nancy Myers who also spent an hour with us. We were then allowed to talk with his foster mother, Louise Roberts. We arranged a time to pick him up. In the interim, Kolbe had a seizure and spent the night in the hospital. I was connected to the ER Vett, Dr Abernathy. Dr Abernathy and I, had many conversations and she was very generous with her time. They felt Kolbe had a seizure because he had just taken NexGard, a Flea and Tick medication. He was taking an anti-seizure medication three times a day, and we decided we could deal with that. Next, we drove to Chesapeake to pick up Kolbe at his Foster Mother, Louise Robert's home. She gave us detailed instruction on his routine and provided his bed, blanket, toys and some of the food he ate. Kolbe is a very lovable dog; he loved to curl up next to you and is very affectionate. He went to bed in his 36" crate at about 10pm and got up about 6:30am. We had him for 7 days and he never had an accident in the house. Friday night, the 7th night with us, at dinner, he had another seizure and it lasted about 10 minutes. He calmed down then had another one 5 minutes later. We called the Vett and she suggested we take him to ER. He had another seizure in the car. We took him to Coastal Animal Care and they were great. After triage and a meeting with Courtney, Dr Krause, the owner met with us. She explained that Kolbe most likely had Epilepsy. She felt with the right medication that they could get it under control; however, he was most likely going to need medication for the rest of his life. She then said, "can you guys deal with this?" We absolutely love Kolbe, and wanted to save him from having to move again; however, we had to admit that we were not equipped or had the knowledge to provide him the appropriate care. I am 79 and my wife is 73, if he had another seizure in the middle of the night, I am not sure we could handle it. Kr Krause then called Sharon Neil of Compact Canine and arranged to take Kolbe back into foster care. I communicated with Sharon several times that night and she informed me that she is a Nurse and planned to foster Kolbe personally herself. Costal Care also offered to board him until he was stable enough to go home. This has been a most difficult situation; however, Dr Krause and Sharon Neil made this situation much less painful than it could have been. We feel much better knowing that Sharon Neil (a Nurse) will personally be taking care of Kolbe and he is now in much better hands than ours. These two organizations, Compact Canine and Coastal Animal Care are OUTSTANDING companies and clearly respect, and have legitimate concern for animals more than anything else. Please consider them in your donations, we certainly will! Leon Frazier Kit Frazier

A wonderful, thankfully local, emergency vet facility with a very caring staff who see our pets only in their real time of need...thanks so much for taking such good care all the way from reception, our intake technician and especially Dr. Chris Stevens who cared for our GSD Gracie!

We cannot begin to thank each of the amazing members of the CARE team for their kindness and their compassion during our weekend emergency. Their collective care, concern, and professional/technical support helped to guide us through a very difficult time and ultimate decision. The love the staff showed cannot be understated. We are truly blessed to have the dedicated CARE team providing professional veterinary services in this community.

I am not a review person but I had to for this place. My puppy had an emergency over the weekend and we had been to two home town emergency vets and did not get the care she needed. CARE was an hour from me but they had called me back and wanted to help my baby and they did just that and more. The owner and workers are exceptionally kind and compassionate. I will always recommend this place!

One of the few emergency vets who can perform ultrasound and CT scans on the weekend. The staff was amazing they called with updates when they said they would the vets were top notch. I drove 2 hours to get to them and I'd do it again in a heartbeat

Dr. Moin took such great care of my dog when he was incredibly ill. She sat with our family and explained everything and was in constant contact with us every day with updates. Her heart is in veterinary medicine and it shows. KT also went out of her way to show exceptional kindness and compassion for us and we are so thankful for her. The entire team was helpful and made a very stressful time seem manageable. Forever grateful to Dr. Moin and KT.

My name is Serena and I brought my dog Nellie here for emergency surgery yesterday. Needless to say I was a wreck and the staff was absolutely amazing. They were so comforting, compassionate, worked with my budget, and hilarious and managed to make me laugh even though I had been in tears since 7am. They truly are amazing and very informative every step of the way. Before and after surgery I got calls with updates since I was over an hour away. I was able to get my Nellie girl home around 1am and she's recovering well. Huge thank you to this team.

As I type my overdue review I can't help but wonder how many people out there, near and far, who are navigating a pet's illness and/or their pet's end of life. First, my heart goes out to everyone who has walked, or will walk, this path. It'a a loss like no other. We endured both illness and the losses of our cat, Oreo, and our dog Bailey Mae, 8 months apart. Our family will forever be thankful for the way we and our pets were treated on some of the saddest days of our lives. We were shown kindness, compassion, honesty, respect, hugs, and even some laughter through tears. If you are in need of emergency pet care or facing a pet's end of life decision, and are near the Williamsburg, VA area, please be assured you and your pet will be in the best of hands if you choose CARE. And to Kaitlyn, our tech angel, you went above and beyond throughout Bailey Mae's life, thank you will never be enough.

I can't say enough about the incredible care my cat received at CARE. Every person I encountered with shared genuine compassion and concern for my cats wellbeing from the moment we called. In particular however, Dr. Stevens and Brianna went above and beyond in every way. Brianna was phenomenal as she not only provided expert care but also took the time to explain everything to me, ensuring I fully understood my cat's treatment options and aftercare. Dr. Steven's kept me updated and informed throughout the entirety of my cats surgery and showed true care for what he does. Their compassion, attention to detail and dedication made a very stressful experience so much easier. I truly felt like my cat was in the absolute best hands. Thank you Dr. Stevens and Brianna for going the extra mile and showing such care to my baby

CARE's staff is amazing. Our girl suffered from chronic "happy tail" that we tried catering to that lead to an emergency amputation. They got her in right away, checked her over and allowed us to reach out to other vets for the surgery. They provided the meds she needed to hold her over to the next day. CARE is empathetic and truly cares for your furbaby. Raya and her family thanks CARE for all they did for her.

I brought my dog in during a really stressful scare, and the entire team treated us with so much kindness, patience, and respect. They took the time to explain everything, reassured me every step of the way, and made sure my pup was comfortable and cared for. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and the animals they help. I'm incredibly grateful for their compassion and professionalism -- highly recommend this clinic to anyone who wants their pet in truly caring hands. I can't thank you all enough!

The entire staff at this clinic was empathetic, kind, and helpful. They were efficient and professional, and they very clearly cared about my dog like he was their own. They assisted me with the financing process through Cherry, and did everything they possibly could to make sure I was able to get my dog what he needed. Most importantly, they saved my dog's life, treated him like family, and kept us updated every step of the way. Im certain Whiskey received the best treatment that is available in this area. I am so incredibly grateful.

We brought our german shepherd Gunter here for emergency care. the facility is beautiful and immaculately clean. the tech and the doc gave us the highest level of care and positivity despite being totally swamped with incoming patients. they were thorough and reasonably priced given that they handle emergencies. they handled my large dog with ease and even trimmed his nails for me while he was knocked out. i cant thank them enough for treating my dog in a pinch.

I can't explain enough on how much this place has helped me and my dog. The care, compassion, explanations, etc. They love your animals like it's their own. They understand and listen to your struggles when you talk with them. My dog (Bella-Boo) who is 13 years old (Little ild senior dog), went for pancreatitis and a syncope episode (scared the hell out of me). Both times they took amazing care of her, they were calm, knew what they were doing, always explained everything well, knew what needed to get done. But also their bedside manner, is beyond any place I have been to in my life. With me running in the doors at 10pm at night with my dog just waking up from an episode, to getting her seen and checked on immediately, to consoling me with this whirl wind of an experience and explaining what is happening. There are no words that will explain how deeply this place means to me, and the ongoing care, compassion, knowledge and skills these individuals have, that have helped keep my dog alive, but also helped me when I was panicked, grieving, etc. She's alive and well because of them. Thank you to EVERYONE at CARE for all you've done, from the continued support, dedication and high level care. This community is lucky to have you all.
Amanda HubbardNovember 2025
The amount of care and support they provided to my baby for her seizures during and after her visit is absolutely phenomenal. I can't thank Lexi and all the staff for everything. You all are rock stars.

Our primary vet recommended this place when they didn't have the manning to help my pup Krypto out. He had an open head wound from a seroma rupture. The staff were professional and friendly and the doctor didn't rush or push for unnecessary expensive procedures or imaging. I also appreciated their quoting process. They quoted on the absolute high end of potential cost, but when it came time to pay, it was nearly half of what I was initially quoted. So no last minute price shock. They were quick as well. I've taken other dogs to emergency vets before and ended up waiting hours before being seen. My pup was in something like 30 minutes, maybe less of arrival. And not much longer after that he was getting his wound cleaned up and sutured. The facility is really nice as well. They even have refreshments for the owners while we wait. If I ever need to take a pet to an E-Clinic again, this is where I intend on going in the future.

My husband and I are very thankful for CARE. Our beagle loves to get into things & we've taken her here twice . They treated her well & the place is clean and spotless. We also love their service and the treatments they provided. We're blessed to have an emergency vet in the WB area.

Dr.Moin and Courtney were absolutely amazing while taking care of my girl, Dixie. They were so kind and very efficient. I believe the cost 100% reflected the care provided. Dixie says thank you for the really good nap and the meds that will get her on the mend! I definitely recommend them for all of you emergency needs.
Courtney DentSeptember 2025
Dr. Moin and the whole staff at CARE were phenomenal. While we ultimately had to make the tough decision to say goodbye to my fur baby, Dr. Moin and her team were compassionate and comforted us during the difficult time. Before things took a bad turn in my dog's health, they were very thorough and explained everything very well to us. Since it's an emergency vet, you obviously don't want to be in the situation to need to go there with your pet, but your pet will be well taken care of and well loved
