Is there a 24-hour veterinary service in Williamsburg, VA?
CARE is open around the clock from Friday morning to Monday night: we open Friday at 7:30 a.m., stay open 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday, and close Monday at 9:00 p.m. We are not open seven days a week; we are closed Tuesday through Thursday except for some holidays.
Is there an urgent care center in Williamsburg, VA?
CARE sees both urgent and emergency cases during our hours, and no referral is needed. A limp, an allergic reaction or a day of vomiting can be seen here as well as a true emergency, though the most critical patients are always treated first.
Not sure which one your pet needs? Our Urgent & Emergency Care page lists the signs that mean an emergency, the problems that fit urgent care, and the ones your family veterinarian can handle.
What is available here all weekend
Many clinics hold tests and procedures until Monday. At CARE they happen on the weekend:
- X-ray, ultrasound and CT, run and read on site, so you get a diagnosis without waiting days for results (Diagnostics & Imaging)
- Emergency surgery (Surgery)
- Endoscopy to remove swallowed objects without an incision (Endoscopy)
- Hospitalization with an ICU ward and oxygen cages (Hospitalization)
- Advanced options many hospitals do not offer: hemoperfusion for certain poisonings and hyperbaric oxygen therapy
How much is a weekend emergency vet visit?
It depends on what your pet needs, so there is no single price. At CARE a veterinarian examines your pet first, then gives you a treatment plan and cost estimate before treatment starts.
Our Paying for Emergency Care page explains how billing works, why emergency care costs more than a regular visit, and the financing options you can apply for.
Do vets work on weekends?
Many family veterinary clinics close or keep short hours on weekends, which is exactly when CARE is open. Our veterinarians, nurses, imaging and surgical team are here through Saturday and Sunday.
Call before you come
Calling (757) 703-0199 on your way lets our team get ready for your pet before you walk in.
When we are open, the status box near the top of this page shows the current estimated wait. Estimates change with triage: pets with life-threatening emergencies are always treated first, so if your pet is in critical condition, come in right away.

When CARE is closed: Tuesday to Thursday
We are closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday unless a holiday falls on one of those days. If your pet needs help then:
- Call your family veterinarian first. Many can see urgent problems the same day.
- Our receptionist is available Tuesday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for scheduling and records. This is not emergency care.
- If it is a true emergency and your vet is closed or full, go to the nearest open 24-hour emergency hospital. Do not wait for us to reopen.
- If your pet ate something toxic, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center answers around the clock at (888) 426-4435 (a consultation fee applies).
